Zivian Spotlight: Daniel Moore, NP

Daniel Moore, Nurse Practitioner

Zivian Health is proud to support advanced practice clinicians. In addition to providing healthcare compliance and collaboration support, we want to share the stories of the healthcare professionals we serve.

Today we spotlight Daniel Moore, a Family Nurse Practitioner from Louisiana.

Moore spoke to us about his journey as a healthcare professional and his experience with Zivian Health.

An Alternative Path

Daniel Moore could be considered a Renaissance Man. Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Moore worked in a variety of professions: finance, tax preparation, art, music and more.

“You’d probably call my journey an alternative path,” Moore said.

Moore’s inspiration to enter the healthcare field was sparked by the loss of a family member. Moore was the primary caregiver to his father before he passed away – this experience, coupled with the upheaval of Hurricane Katrina, 2008 financial crisis, and subsequent Great Recession, caused him to reconsider his career path.

“I lost my house in Katrina and lost my job during the financial collapse,” said Moore. “I had some time before I figured out my next move, so I went to nursing school. I moved to Mississippi, and all I did was eat, sleep, and study.”

Moore finished nursing school in two years as the president of his class.

From RN to NP

After graduating, Moore spent seven years working in Mississippi as an ER Registered Nurse (RN). During this time, he got his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and became a Nurse Practitioner.

Then, Moore was hired as an FNP at an Internal Medicine clinic within the same MS health system.

Opening a Private Practice

Over the next few years, Moore worked at several clinics and primary care providers in Mississippi.

After the pandemic, Moore and a business partner opened a weight loss clinic in Mississippi. His practice thrived for months, providing care for up to 40 patients per day.

Recently, due to regulatory changes regarding weight loss in Mississippi, Moore decided to move his practice to Louisiana. He recently got his LA state license and is currently working with Zivian to find a collaborating physician.

“The weight loss has gone really well so far,” Moore shared. “There are unique expenses involved with this type of care, but you see it through because you want to help your patients.”

In addition to his Louisiana practice, Moore also maintains his practice in McComb, MS, in order to provide care for those without many other options in the area.

“I still have my primary practice in McComb,” Moore said. “I did not want to abandon all those patients. For one particular type of insurance, I am the only provider within 50 miles.”

Life Is a Series of Choices

Moore’s career as a clinician was birthed out of adversity, resourcefulness, and hard work. Moore, however, takes everything in stride.

“Life is a series of choices,” he mused. “You just try to make the next right one with the information that you have.”

Looking toward the future, Moore is focused on growing his Louisiana weight loss practice and providing much-needed care to his community.

Experience with Zivian Health

When asked about his experience with Zivian so far, Moore was enthusiastic:

“Zivian has been awesome,” he responded. “Zivian beat everyone else’s price. I had a collaborating doctor in 24 hours, and it was a great experience. I also appreciate you guys understanding that I’m just starting up [my practice]. I really appreciate Zivian helping me get my business started.”
